One of the most commonly used methods of construction in the world is reinforced cement concrete, or RCC. Due to its strength, durability, and versatility, RCC structures are ideal for both residential and commercial construction. RCC construction is known for producing strong, long-lasting, and versatile structures. We are one of the best structural engineering consultants in Dubai. What is RCC
Reinforced cement concrete (RCC) is a type of concrete that contains reinforcing fibers to increase its strength and stability. The fibers are woven into the concrete prior to pouring, and they aid in the distribution of pressure and tension throughout the material.
Concrete has a low tension but a high compression strength. Steel reinforcing can be used to increase its tensile strength.
RCC concrete with steel reinforcement is the most popular form. Steel is a popular building material because to its many advantages, including its durability and accessibility. Steel, as opposed to concrete, can resist greater tension.
Types of RCC Construction
RCC construction falls into the following types in broadly:
Framed RCC Construction: RCC beams and columns are used in this type of RCC construction to create a frame. On top of this frame, the walls are constructed, and the beams support up the roof.
Load-Bearing RCC Construction: The walls in this type of RCC construction are the primary components that maintain load. The roof is supported by the walls, which the structure is built around.
Composite RCC Construction: Steel and concrete are used in this type of RCC construction to create a structure that offers the benefits of both materials.
Advantages of RCC
• RCC buildings are more durable than other buildings.
. Reinforced concrete has superior compressive and tensile strength when compared to other building materials.
• Prior to the mix hardening, reinforced concrete can be moulded into any shape.
• RCC buildings have lower maintenance and have a long life.
• RCC buildings are better resistant to fire than steel-only structures.
• Compared to building steel structures, RCC buildings require less skilled workers during construction.
What are different types of RCC Structure?
The amount of steel required to construct an RCC Section or structure determines the different types of RCC structures.
RCC Structure exists in three different types. As they are
a) Under reinforced section
A section is regarded as reinforced if its proportions are such that the stress in the steel reaches its permissible value earlier the stress in the concrete occurs. Concrete will have less stress than it is permitted. Its failure was ductile. The neutral axis remains above the critical neutral axis in the under-reinforced section. This failure shows any sign of failure before the structure’s sudden collapse.
b) Over reinforced section
The concrete in this type of construction reaches its permissible load-bearing capacity earlier the steel rod that is used in it. Its failure is brittle. The neutral axis is below the critical neutral axis in this instance. Before to this structure’s sudden collapse, it shows no signs of failure.
c) Balanced Section
In this type of structure, the steel rods and concrete both reach the maximum amount that can support the load at the same time. Exactly at the critical neutral axis is its neutral axis. This section’s failure is known as a balanced failure.
